Mapping the Mahomet Aquifer: Progress and Findings
Wednesday, December 18th: On Wednesday, December 18th, at 6:00 pm Dr. Kisa Mwakanyamale Gilkie and Dr. Jason Thomason will discuss the work they are doing in East Central Illinois. The presentation will discuss the new technology that have been developed to better map groundwater resources like the Mahomet Aquifer.
Dr. Kisa Mwakanyamale Gilkie is a research geophysicist at the Illinois State Geological Survey (ISGS), and the lead investigator for the Mahomet Aquifer Mapping Program. In this role, Dr. Mwakanyamale Gilkie conducts research using airborne and ground-based geophysical methods to characterize the framework of the Mahomet aquifer.
Dr. Jason Thomason is a geologist at the Illinois State Geological Survey, which is part of the Prairie Research Institute at the University of Illinois. With colleagues and students, Dr. Thomason has been studying the Ice Age history of Illinois for over 20 years and has coordinated geologic mapping and research projects across many parts of the state, largely in northeast Illinois. His current work includes the use of airborne technologies to map aquifer systems, 3D mapping of geologic frameworks, and in-situ testing of glacial-sediment engineering properties.
The meeting will be held virtually on Teams at 6:00 pm. Link to attend will be emailed. Dinner will not be provided.
RSVP on our website Chapter Meetings & Events | AEG St. Louis (aegstl.org) by Monday, December 16th, to attend.
The cost to attend this virtual meeting is FREE.
